Selfish Choice: Who I want to have a single event dinner with during 2015:

My wish for a special dinner this year would be to configure a dinner table in my home with the following (bring the dead ones back):

  • Mark Twain
  • Dave Brubeck
  • Ernest Hemingway
  • Lee Allan Sanders
  • Erma Bombeck
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • Helen Louise Russell
  • Hamsa Merlet

Starter topic: Create a nurturing quotation that will resonate with and help today's YA population to succeed.

Easter 2015, An excellent day

The rain, although desperately needed and hoped for here, held off.
The grandkids all showed up, and brought their parents with them :-)
Grandpa Bunny (me) had prepared balance beams, buried golden eggs with BIG surprises inside, and the other parents hid the "standard" Easter eggs in our yard while I took all six gkids down to the creek to throw rocks off the bridge to watch the splashes and careering bounces for those who missed the water first time.
Food was served, Champagne (real) was consumed (only by the adults), and lots of chocolate was on hand.
My special surprises for the gkids consisted of one Minecraft torch for each, a choice of Minecraft sword or pickaxe for each, and a choice of Creeper or Steven head for each.
The gkids did what I hoped they would, which was run madly around the yard having a great time outdoors.
Yay :-)
I am grateful, and give thanks.

MORE MOODLE IS HERE (above link)

Seeing many familiar names and faces from the Moodle communities on the MOOC Group I just joined on LinkedIn. I am hoping for new information on how to make mobile Moodle faster and more comprehensive since that is what I need to make it useful for me going forward.

A colleague is ready to move to the Phillipines (returning there after 30 years in the USA) and will (given proper time and good fortune) be setting up a Moodle online learning site to help his country add value via online learning. I do not know this from personal experience, but he tells me that the Phillipines lags in online learning substantially behind most other major countries. I wish him well and if he asks for help I shall surely offer it, mostly in the content development area.

iMoot 2012: The "Mini Cooper Moot" LOL

What fun!  Not only has the programme finally been published, but all keynoters have been outed on the site with pictures and everything *:-)

Down below you can see the sessions I plan to attend, but right now I recommend that you take a quick detour (no GPS required) to take a look at one Moodler's collection of vehicles ... he would be fun to ride around with *:-)  Go here to see:
http://2012.imoot.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=303

Ok then, look for me in the following sessions, and please say hello:

  • Keynote 1: Michelle Moore (a person I believe comes close to Guy Kawasaki level in her ability to enthuse & promote Moodle)
  • Google Analytics and Moodler with Bas Brands (Presos by folks from the Nederlands are almost always good)
  • Integrating Mahara and Moodle 2 for the ultimate LMS (maybe I can finally figure out how to use Mahara)
  • Google Apps - Moodle Integration Possibilities (I just added apps to my personal site, so this is great!)
  • Lecture Broadcast and Capture using BigBlueButton (maybe I can finally use this tool)
  • Using Moodle in Business (this is the guy with the cars *:-] )
  • Mahara: ePortfolio for Moodle users, with Kristina Hoeppner from New Zealand, which is where my wife and I would live if we weren't in California.
  • Mahara ePortfolio in Practice, with Sigi Jakob-Kuhn, who imho is a very serious contributor to the Moodle world, and her posts on Twitter send me to Google Translate frequently *:-)
  • Sponsor - The FreeMoodle.or project, with the guy with the cars, and a New Zealander *:-)
  • Keynote 5 with Das Moodler himself, always genuine and forthcoming about his creation.
  • My Moodle Course: An Experiment in Social Constructionism, with Michelle Moore, and a topic that causes much debate among the educators I come in contact with here in California.  Not everybody likes Social Contructionism.
  • Then of course there is the mysterious "Session B-31"; how could I not attend such an "MI6" sort of session, eh?
  • iMoot wrapup, always fun and relaxing, why not?

See you there.

Great to see tweets and messages from the 2012 iMoot team indicating that "things are on the stove, and beginning to cook" *:-)  Wishing everyone on the iMoot team well, and we appreciate the effort.

2012 iMoot (http://2012.imoot.org) energy is building, with significant commentary on other social sites working to help get it off the ground.  I am not seeing the level of activity from the host like I believe i saw in the past, but I have seen that the individuals who put so much into the iMoot each year have been traveling and busy elsewhere, so perhaps they will begin to construct the experience soon.  I hope they have jackets for sale this year *:-)  See you there, perhaps.  Cheers.

2012 iMoot is coming up!

I love the iMoots so far, and this will be my third one, for which I have already registered.  The Moodle community seems to be able to remain unsullied by the excessively commercial LCMS market, although some temblors have been felt via the recent gutting of some of Moodle's developer revenue stream by the purchase of a Moodle hosting service by one of the big government-contract heavy LMS titans.  I believe teachers shall remain the same however, and will send my energy to those who continue to keep it simple on behalf of learning via online delivery.  Cheers!  Hope to bump into you at the iMoot *:-)

Non-user administrators flush Moodle, replace with Sakai *:-(

Bummer.  I say Bummer.
VHL (Very High Level) administrators who don't live in or use the LCMS worlds, have decreed that the default LCMS shall not be Moodle for a while, so that the home grown Sakai can be trotted about for all to see.  Lotta work I have done is now on hold, and legions of conversion programmers are queuing up to offer their services (students will probably do it for free, sorry).
So ... the waiting begins, for a return to sanity.
No worries, I'm gonna Moodle anyway *:-)

One Thousand Seventy One carefully crafted words gone in 60 microseconds

Perhaps fatigue, rushing to judgement, procrastination, or an equally familiar foible resulted in the loss of an important 1,071-word Moodle forum post intended to fulfill one of the assignments in the MCCC course I am currently attempting to pass.  Note to self: even if the second instance of a particular Moodle course that I have on display is simultaneously viewed in a different browser than that of the primary content-entry browser, if I close the secondary browser before completing and uploading the post, the post will be lost.  Unfortunately, the primary browser appears to remain active and fruitful, allowing continued entry, but when the attempt is made to post the content to the forum, the screen and message below are delivered without recourse and leave me feeling yucky and depressed:

No worries ... I regained my strength to continue, and got the post uploaded and turned in on time *:-)  Yay!

The mystery of the 2nd Pencil-Hand: Theme = "Standard Theme"

Per request, here is a screen shot of the Themes > Theme Selector output screen:

The other Pencil-Hand ... what will happen?

This morning I wanted to find out what would happen when I click on the pencil-hand in the block top bar, which I was too timid to try last night.  Here is where I started:

Here is the pencil-hand I clicked this morning:

... and KA-BOOM!  Near-instant and radical change to the screen display, now showing what is below:

I will go to Moodle Docs to figure out all the things I can do from here.  What a difference a click makes!

Which pencil-hand do I click?

With editing turned off inside my new course, I wanted to practice entering description text, so I turned editing on.  Because two pencil-hands showed up in the block I wanted to edit, I was concerned that I would click on the wrong one and blow the block away or something.  With trepidation, I studied the scene shown directly below:
Although I was not sure, after staring at the scene, and doing mouse-overs a couple times, I guessed, and got it right, enabling me to enter the text shown in green.  Here is the pencil-hand I chose:
Yay! Win! *:-)
